2015 April 19, In the Petaluma County in northern California took place a running competition. Two events were held. A 3 Miles (4.82 km) and 5 miles (8.05 km). There were 300 men and 450 women participating. I raced the race 5miles.
The running course wound its way from a section of a hotel parking lot (start /finish), following on a pretty narrow dirt path and one part on old railroad gravel and we ending the race, 1km in the street leading to the hotel for the finish line.
Did I win? Yes. Although the majority of the race was on a trail and a gravel path? Yes! I was very surprised how I was capable to properly push with my racing chair in a narrow trail with tight 90 degrees tricky turns and on gravel.
Imagine yourself rolling in a dirt path trail or gravel with a road bike … it is not very effective and the risk of puncture and breaks for carbon wheels are very high!
I raced and won the race with a comfortable lead of 1 min 7 s. The 3miles race started was 5 minutes after mine and I also finished ahead of them too!
The 5 and 3 miles racecourse was the same except the 5 miles did an additional 2km on a mini loop beside the racecourse to come back thru the main course.
I enjoyed my race and the participants also appreciated my presence even though I was faster than them.
I’ll do it next year to beat my time, because I have set a new record!
Deann Blausey friend in the picture with me did her best time ever on a 3miles.
Special thank’s to Larry Floyd for his great work in head of me to open the track and keep me informed for the tight turns 🙂
